The mood of a painting is what attracts me to each project. I attempt to transfer my mental images of life moments into my works of art. I have shown in galleries through out Michigan and Florida and have presented many solo exhibits. I use acrylic, oil, watercolor and mixed media to express my thoughts and feeling to the canvas. It is my hope to continue learning and enjoying the wonderful world of art....

“The Marine City Art Drift was a city-wide art exhibition that began at Kmart Plaza and followed M-29 all the way through Water Street,” New Century Art Gallery gallerist and artist Jeanne Burris-Johnson said. “Businesses adopted an artist for an evening and the artist set up a table with work to display and sell. Many held demonstrations, as well. Patrons of the event ‘drifted’ from participating business to business discovering local art and businesses.”
New Century Art Gallery hosted the event along with The Painted Toad and MC Marketplace.
The event took place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There were 29 artists that participated at 29 Marine City businesses throughout the event, in mediums such as different kinds of painting, multimedia, photography and more....

About the artist:
I've been a potter for about 30 years, fulltime as my professional job for 19 years. My work consists of functional and decorative stoneware and porcelain. I have taught classes and workshops in my own studio and outside studios for about 28 years. I was the children's clay instructor and studio co-manager at the St. Clair Art association for 13 of those years. This is not only my profession but also a labor of love, sharing, and community. I hope to bring that positive energy to the space I'm in.

Proud to announce that New Century Art Gallery received a grant from the Backing Small Businesses program presented by @AmericanExpress, in partnership with @NatlMainStreet. These grants provide financial support to small business owners to address critical needs and make a positive impact in their local communities. Grants of $5,000 have been awarded to 350 small business owners, and we are so excited to be one of them!
For New Century Art Gallery, this grant will give us resources to help artists build their business and brand and help create a strong art presence in Marine City, Michigan. We plan to continue our free Veteran art classes, put together more Artist Talks and Master Classes, purchase equipment for our classes and artist promotions, and begin work on an Art Hop event in Marine City.

New Century Art Gallery asked artist Tara Hutton, “What do you listen to when you are creating?”
"I’m very picky when it comes to music. Having lived through several decades and followed music all the while I like a wide variety. But as I paint and create I like a smooth non-interruptive sound. My favorite go to is a playlist I created on Spotify titled: Continental Jazz Lounge. It contains a mix of classic rat pack music by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin with Astrud Giblerto the Gotan Project, Pink Martini, Sade and a lot from the Hotel Costes series by the French producer Stéphane Pompougnac."-Tara Hutton
